All vehicles need regular maintenance no matter how old or new they are.  But as the miles begin to creep up on your odometer, you might want to consider a few maintenance items to add to the list of regular maintenance you do.

We all know that oil changes are a regular maintenance item for all vehicles, but few drivers think about all the other services their vehicle needs to stay running smoothly. Most auto repair and tire shops offer preventative maintenance and monthly checks that help you keep your vehicle on the road.

A monthly checklist should include:

• Battery cables, clamps, and terminals
• Check the following levels and add the recommended fluids as necessary:
• Oil level
• Engine coolant level
• Brake fluid level
• Power steering fluid level
• Transmission fluid
• Windshield washer fluid reservoir level
• Check belts for tension, cracks or wear.
• Check hoses for leaks, cracks or wear.
• Inspect the engine and under the car for any leaks.
• Check tire pressure on all tires, including the spare tire.
• Inspect the tread depth.
• Inspect tires for uneven wear or any object that could cause a puncture.

Maintenance to have checked on a regular basis:

• Spark plugs
• Engine diagnostics
• Brakes
• Air filters
• Wheel alignment
